Canterbury is a self-directed, open-classroom environment. The first part of the day is an age-grouped classroom environment. The children work independently at learning activities while the teacher works one-on-one or in small groups. At this time, the unit of study is presented and developed. After snack time, the school joins together for an open-classroom environment. The children mix and participate in activities such as art, drama, music, cognitive activities, carpentry, hands-on science, and fine and gross motor activities.
